Sculpture Project Process

This will be more of a reflection on my Whole > Parts Sculpture process of "The Cat."
When I first started planning the idea, I was originally wanting to do a head or a messy figure. Unfortunately, these original sketches were very complicated, so I tried to avert my attention to something slightly more simple, like an animal with minimal detail.
My sculpture's purpose is that it can relatively only be seen from a certain angle, being the angle seen on "photo 1" in my gallery. The sculpture is not meant to resemble an entirely recognizable form, which is why some aspects are messy looking.
When I started the sculpture process, I begun with sculpting a clay torso, as I would add on legs, a tail, and a head later on. I was very frustrated, as I was lost in how to make the pieces of my sculpture come together in the end of it all. I eventually put a dowel rod in through the upper and lower torso to try and bring it together.
For the second portion of my sculpture process, I worked on trying to bring together and connect my other pieces, starting with wood. I carved wood to form to the body and so the figure could stand properly. This would become an issue in the future! It took a long time trying to find extra objects that will help keep the figure balanced, as the legs were not all measurably in proportion to each other. After figuring out how to connect a flat rectangle to a curved surface with the help of Coach Hall and my mom, I moved onto the head and tail. The head and tail are both made out of aluminum foil, but I had to decide which materials to use before I decided that. This was fun for me, as molding foil is easy and doesn't require too much planning with the purpose of my sculpture, as stated above. I put finishing touches on it to add some color and life (but still keeping it a bundled figure instead of something full of life) and called it done!
I can say from Art 2 and Art 3 that I am definitely not a big fan of sculpture... but it was good experience!
