When I jumped into painting grisaille, I ended up shifting the position of the objects more each day to better fit the canvas and be more proportional to the irl still life. When doing the grisaille, I painted directly, which is what I was NOT supposed to do, but I forgot about building up value as I am used to drawing fast, as well as building detail and value quickly / messily. My values were originally a little too dark, so when I was perfecting the grisaille before going into colored glazing, I made the darks as dark as I could, and shaped up the highlights.
Here is my grisaille process:
(Sorry for the blue lighting in the final grisaille.)
I was slightly scared to go into colored glazing, as I was proud of my grisaille. If I had complete free will, I would have kept it achromatic! I have done the background, glazed the pot a deep blue, and glazed the tomato an orange. I unfortunately had to go back over in grisaille a couple times because i messed up and made the glaze to opaque, and or glazed a spot I didn't want to. I also had to wipe the paint, which was either too opaque or to light of a color in a dark-valued area, with a paper towel.
This is my current glazing status:

(Again, sorry that it is shiny; it was still wet at the time of taking the photo.)
I will be working on building up some color in future weeks!
