I did not get to see the in person lunchtime lecture, but when I saw Oura, I for some reason recognized his work. It turns out that I have actually bought two of his comics in Carry Town's Toy Lair, as well as seen the small mural for Tokyo Market. He seems really sweet and his comics are amazing (It's adorable because he signs the comics with "XOXO). His bunny drawings kind of remind me of Sam from Sam and Max.
I learned that Oura typically uses his I pad for drawing on a regular basis, and sometimes does murals. He likes Transformers. He also does painting. His works appear very complicated and abstract with somewhat jagged linework, as well as pigmented colors. A dominant amount of his work incorporates words and sometimes characters, as well as dramatic, sci-fi, or horror-like themes. He makes toys!
He has been drawing black and white comics for around "30 years now." He still enjoys messing around, like with animation or playing around with the plot of his comics. Inspired by Keith Haring, Basquiat, cartoons, and more.
