When looking at contemporary artists, I came across a beautiful blue and white woodcarving and painting, shown below. As I looked at his art, I was intrigued at the imagery and figures that he enveloped in his artwork. Matt uses color in a wonderful way; the artworks just pop out, and I don't mean because of the woodcarving.

Matt Roussel is a French painter, ceramist, and engraver. Matt was born in 1964, south of France. He has worked as a 3D illustrator for a very long time, but when he moved to Mongolia in 2015, he started to mainly create engraving and ceramic works. He developed a unique style of using acrylic paint over his wood carvings. He enjoys the themes of the relationship between humans, animals, and nature. He also shows connections between nature and culture. Looking at his selection of artwork, he enjoys drawing animals, especially fish, and women, as well as flowers. His art can be described as mythical and have imagery that resembles Asian culture and beauty. A lot of his art are black and white prints, while some he turns into the part acrylic prints.
Golden Fish2 (23 x 23 inch.)

This, Tigre, is a wood engraving on corn paper with a black ink wash ink in oil.

Mudan (47 x 23 inch.) Acrylic on wood carving.
I think wood carving is gorgeous, but I do not have the want to do wood carving, as I am very fond of graphite and charcoal on paper. The way wood carving looks, though, is something that I want to take inspiration from. The way lines look in these types of artworks is what i heavily enjoy looking at, as it is slightly similar to hatching.
