Abstract Painting Process Post

When I first started working on my abstract painting, I made the base color a deep red. On the second day. I had absolutely no plan as I arrived to class late from testing. I originally started drawing shapes and animals scattered across the canvas, specifically a fish, cat, and snake, with charcoal. I then went in with some bright cool colors including some darker colors that are harder to see, as well as hints of warm colors. I enjoyed using the pallet knife to smear the bright color across the page.

On the third day, I also loved using the pallet knife and I attempted to incorporate some yellows, oranges, more vibrant reds, and pinks. I also tried to add some lighter colors like a teal / cyan (blue green, idk) and light pink. I realized that I was very stiffly painting throughout my work time on the third day, which is why I incorporated some curvy streaks with my big brush and quick paint streaks with my pallet knife.

I hope that I can recover a well put together painting, perhaps incorporating some light blues to compliment the dark red background, of which I plan to bring back a bit. I also will compliment the red and blue with a bright yellow. I will still use sharp lines with the pallet knife and circles. I will decide the day of whether or not I should keep going with a similar scene that I had originally with the animals.
