Art 5 Summer Project Process Post #3

After doing a watercolor wash, I start applying gouache for details and more defined color, starting on the main subject's body. I try to keep the colors warm to stick with the color scheme.

I did not take a lot of process pictures unfortunately, but then I worked on the border around the subject, working with oranges and pinks and making sure to keep the planned dark areas deep in color. I start working with purple a lot, also because I love working with purple.

During this I struggled with certain sections not being the color I wanted them to be because I accidently painted over the section with an unwanted color. Due to this, I went over certain sections of the painting with whites and yellows mannyyy times. I also struggled with shading some areas of the body because I was scared I was going to mess up the color of the skin and add too much shadow.

After I was mostly done with the left side of the painting, I focused on emphasizing brush strokes in the hair on the right side, using deep purple to contrast the yellow and orange once again. Here I tried to have straight lines, which I am not the best at, but most of them are actually pretty straight! I also worked on the sun here.

After focusing on the right, I made more adjustments to the whole piece, and then I put some texture and plants in the bottom right corner like a initially planned to in my sketches.

I reused the texture I ingrained into this section into other areas, mainly the skin border.

I would say that I really like this painting, even though I hated it in the second stage (process post #2) of the process.
